Gaudy Welsh, Dutch

Gaudy Welsh is a hand decorated floral pottery, making each piece unique, manufactured in Staffordshire, England from 1820 to 1850. Its colors were based on Japanese Imari china. Gaudy Dutch was made for the American market: mainly German settlers in Pennsylvania, known as Pennsylvania "Dutch", from 1810 to 1830. Only sixteen patterns of Gaudy Dutch were made: Butterfly, Carnation, Dahlia, Double Rose, Dove, Grape, Leaf, Oyster, Primrose, Single Rose, Strawflower, Sunflower, Urn, War Bonnet, Zinnia, and No Name. Gaudy Ironstone production began a bit later than Gaudy Dutch and was made of heavy ironstone rather than light, translucent porcelain.
